Samuel Yochelson

Samuel Yochelson

Psychiatrist (1906-1976).  Born in Buffalo.  Dr. Yochelson is best known as the senior author (with Dr. Stanton E. Samenow) of The Criminal Personality (1976), a detailed study of the criminal's view of himself and the world.  The study concludes that permissive rehabilitation is of no value, and that the only way of changing the criminal's behavior is to alter his way of thinking, to whatever degree that is possible.

Dr. Yochelson became, in 1958, the first head of the psychiatric clinic of the Jewish Community Service Society, now known as Jewish Family Service.
