Selig Adler

American Historian, 1909-1984.  Born Baltimore, Maryland.  Graduate of the University of Buffalo (1931).  Appointed to the history faculty of the University of Buffalo in 1938, and subsequently named Samuel Paul Capen Professor of American History there.  Author of numerous scholarly publications, including The Isolationist Impulse (1957), concerning American isolationism, and The Uncertain Giant (1965), regarding United States foreign policy between the world wars.  Dr. Adler was also the co-author, with Thomas E. Connolly, of From Ararat to Suburbia  (1960), a comprehensive history of the Buffalo Jewish community, and the archivist for the Buffalo Jewish community archives that bear his name, which are presently located in the Butler Library at Buffalo State College.
