Lester Bergman

United States Marine (1889-1958).  The first Buffalonian to enlist in the Marine Corps in World War I.  Bergman was wounded five times, including during extremely heavy fighting at the battle of Belleau Wood in France, where he participated in the capture of a Maxim gun, 23 machine guns and 170 German soldiers.  Bergman was subsequently awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the French Croix de Guerre.
