Harvey Swados

Writer (1920-1972).  Born in Buffalo.  Swados, a four year veteran of the Merchant Marine in the Second World War, penned fiction with socialist leanings, starting with short stories published in the New Republic and other journals.   Swados went on to write critically acclaimed stories and several novels, including Out Went the Candle (1955), Standing Fast (1970) and Celebration (1975).
