Immunologist (1901-1969). Born Ernst Witebsky in Frankfurt, Germany. Lived in Buffalo from 1936 to 1969. Dr. Witebsky made important contributions to basic knowledge in the field of blood groups & transfusion problems. He was the first to prove that the organs & tissues of the body other than red blood cells also contain the blood group antigens A & B. Dr. Witebsky's work was vital to the development of successful techniques for both emergency blood transfusions and organ transplantation. |
