Peace Activists

Commentary by Dr. Gerhard Falk

The End of Democracy

Democracy, literally “the rule of the people”, is a fragile thing. In all the world there are few democracies, although there are numerous tyrannies which use such phrases as “parliament” and “president” as covers for repression and dictatorships.

This is true of all the 22 Arab countries and of the Moslem countries around the world. Yet, as we can see in the media, millions of people living in the United States, England, Italy and other European countries marched in the streets to support the murderous Saddam Hussein and the Iraqi brutes. No one marched in the streets to protest the slaughter of 3 thousand Americans on September 11, 2001 and the destruction of the World Trade Center. Not one of the “peace activists” protested the mass murder of 6 million Jews in the European gas ovens a generation ago. Not one of these “peace activists” finds fault with the killing of innocent Israelis by Arab terrorists. On the contrary. In September 2001 the United Nations sponsored a so called conference against racism in Durban, South Africa which was turned into an anti-Jewish hate orgy by the delegates from Europe and the Moslem countries.

There can be no doubt that those who scream in the streets seek the end of democracy, because mob rule is the very antithesis of freedom. Mobs who run in the streets are governed by the emotions of the moment. Mobs allow no differences of opinion or minority views. To a mob, violence is the means of insuring conformity to their views as their hatreds govern their actions.

Democracy depends of law and calm reasoning. Democracy depends on education and consideration of others. Mobs oppose all of that. Therefore, no democratically elected government can give in to the street and let mobs decide policy.

The evidence from history is overwhelming. The French revolution ended in the rule of terror and the dictatorship of Napoleon. The Russian revolution ended in a reign of terror, a civil war and the dictatorship of Lenin/Stalin. Numerous other examples are at hand. The fact is that if the mobs who demonstrated in favor of Hussein succeeded, then a dictator would end the fighting in the streets and all democracy come to and end here as well.

We have a right to ask this question. “Why don’t the so called peace activists demonstrate in Baghdad against Saddam Hussein?” “How about demonstrating against Arafat in Gaza?” “Why not demonstrate against the dictator Mubarak in Cairo?” Of course the cowards wouldn’t dare. The tyrants would kill them all. “How about demonstrating against the Saudi bosses in Riyad?”

The truth is that those who demonstrate in favor of Arab dictatorships are supporting the same hatred and violence that promoted the Nazi ideology sixty years ago. The Arabs are the Nazis of the 21st century and here is the evidence.

Recently, a meeting of an Islamic society called Hisb-ut-taris met in Berlin, Germany. That meeting was attended by the representatives of the German Nazi party now called the NPD, or National Party of Germany, where anti-Jewish hate was spewed into the gutters of Hitler’s country.

The Palestinian writer Muhsen al-Antabawi has published a pamphlet which is widely read in the Moslem world. It is called “Why we reject any peace with the Jews”. Note that the word “jahud” is used. Here the pretense that the Arabs are “only” anti-Israel, not anti-Jewish, is finally exposed.

Antabawi writes: “There can be no peace nor reconciliation with Jews. Jews are responsible for the worldwide degeneration of decency. The Jews control more than 80% of all U.S. media. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion are well known. (The so-called Protocols were forgeries written by Russian priests early in the 20th century and used by Henry Ford, Hitler and other haters to indict the Jewish people). The Jews plan the domination of the world.”

Then there is Said Qutb, an Egyptian hate monger. This fellow published al-Salibja al Alamija and al- Jahudja al-Alanija. The first phrase refers to Christians as Crusaders, a reference frequently used in the Moslem world. This concerns the first crusade, proclaimed by Pope Urban II in 1095. That crusade led to the invasion of Israel by a European army and the establishment of the Kingdom of Jerusalem by the Christians from 1099-1291, when the Arabs defeated the Christians and recaptured Israel until the coming of the Turks. The current myth told among the haters is that George Bush is another Crusader and that Israel will be destroyed just as the Kingdom of Jerusalem was destroyed seven hundred plus years ago.

The second diatribe by Qutb is also called Ma’rakatuna ma’a al Jahud and comes right out of Hitler’s book, Mein Kampf or My Struggle. Exactly like Hitler's, this diatribe claims that behind everything the haters don’t like we find a Jew. For example, the secularization of Turkey by Kemal Ataturk in the 1920’s was really caused by “the Jews”. Any and all anti-Islamic deeds or speeches are caused only by Jews. Even the crusades were the work of Jews, says this widely read hate sheet. This does not, of course mention that the crusaders murdered thousands of Jews on their way to the Holy Land.

Even the scholarly interest Jewish professors have shown Islam is used by the haters to “prove” a Jewish conspiracy against Islam. The truth is that some of the major Islamists were and are Jews. Their books on Islam are tremendous contributions to scholarship and are generally very sympathetic to Islam. Look at the work of D.H. Becker, Martin Kramer or Bernard Lewis. The haters are of course not interested in reading these scholars and their followers are undoubtedly unable to read more than hate tracts in the first place.

The conclusion of these hate messages is always the same. Peace cannot exist in this world unless all Jews are murdered. The so-called Hamas organization, which has murdered so many Jews in Israel and elsewhere, follows the dictates of Qutb.

Evidently, then, these and so many other writings, speeches and broadcasts by the Arab/Muslim alliance resemble the Nazi ideology entirely. It is obvious that those who spread this hatred against the Jewish people and the United States seek the end of democracy and the subjection of all the world to their tyrannies. They not only murder Jews in Israel, they also murder Hindus in India, Christians in Egypt, Nigeria and Indonesia and Buddhists in Afghanistan.

Therefore, those who recently protested in the streets of the U.S. and Europe against our government and rallied in favor of Saddam Hussein want to impose Islamic dictatorships on all of us. In addition, those who favor Hussein and scream “peace” in the streets do not really mean peace. They mean the defeat of this country. They mean the persecution and murder of Jews. And here is the evidence. The editor of Tikkun, Michael Lerner, was refused the right to speak at the San Francisco pro-Saddam rally held there on Sunday, February 16. Lerner is by no means a friend of Israel. On the contrary, he is an extremist who has for years furnished the enemies of the Jewish people with arguments for the destruction of Israel.

Yet, he was refused the right to speak at the so called “peace” rally in San Francisco because he objected to the blatant anti-Jewish tirades expressed by the organizers of this so-called “peace” rally. He shouldn’t have been surprised. Of course those who hate Israel hate all of us. Of course those who scream anti-Israel slogans in the streets agree with the Nazi slogan Juda verrecke or Death to the Jews. Michael Lerner is an ordained rabbi who has betrayed his own people. His “friends” in the peace movement don’t mean peace. If they did they would riot in the streets of Baghdad, or in Damascus, Syria or in Cairo, Egypt or in Gaza or in Riyad, Saudi Arabia where the real warmongers live. If they don’t do that, then we must conclude that they love the tyrants better than they love democracy, which they seek to end so we can all live under the Shariah, the law of Islam.

How about that, my Jewish friends? Wake up. Our friend is the President of the United States, George W. Bush, not Saddam Hussein.

Shalom u’vracha.
